Tung Chung East Promenade | ‘‘Moon Rising – Joy in Lantau’’ Lantern Festival 2026 at Tung Chung Promenade
Description
South Development and Sustainable Lantau Office (SSLO) of Civil Engineering and Development Department presents the "Moon Rising – Joy in Lantau" Lantern Festival 2026 at Tung Chung East Promenade and Tung Chung East Promenade 2.0. To promote the Tung Chung New Town Extension (TCNTE) project along with Lantau's development, conservation, and recreational initiatives, this year's festival aims to foster community connections and provide an enjoyable waterfront experience.
To align with the theme, this year's festival features a 5-meter-tall Moon Rabbit guide carrying a traditional starfruit lantern. Standing next to its luggage packed with a miniature Lantau landscape overlooking the Tai O water village, the moon rabbit guides visitors on an enchanting journey through luminous interactive installations showcasing Lantau Island's scenic spots, traditional culture, and precious ecology.
Visitors can explore a photo arch with playful cubes and travel gates featuring festive greetings, specially themed house-shaped pavilions, and an interactive zone with diverse light, shadow, and sound effects for an immersive audiovisual experience. Guests are also invited to solve boarding-pass-style riddles hung along the lantern corridor and admire festive decorations and lanterns crafted during earlier school and community workshops.
Snap, Share, and "Claw" Souvenirs
Visitors who post a check-in photo of the Lantern Festival on their personal social media, or like/share the Facebook or Instagram posts of the Festival, can get one challenge attempt at the "Claw Layover" booth from 25 to 27 September 2026 for a chance to win limited-edition festive souvenirs. (Available on a first-come, first-served basis, while stocks last.)
